Mountain Biking in Las Crusas, NM, 1997
A tall grinding uphill
With a straining sweating burn
Eyes dimming at the edges
Just focused on the turn
Gasping at the trailhead
Turning around to find
The vast humble awareness
Nature's hidden in your mind
Your chest pounds heavily
Legs quivering with relief
Something breaks inside you
And exits as belief
Looking off into the distance
The snake coils across the land
Dreaming of eternity
You offer him your hand
Dancing in the darkness
Being taken for a ride
Part of something bigger now
Selfish dreams subside
And when it's fallen silent
Your tears beginning to dry
Just turn your bike downhill
And pretend that you can fly
